The best things about writing groups, sometimes they help to take the edge off the stress of writing.
It is very easy to feel awkward or embarrassed or to let whatever feelings get in the way of getting things done.
I had the last session with an online writing group today (6 of 6 sessions). I know the teacher very well (high school!) and have never met the others, but I like them all online.
I was trying to make a point, which involves some domain knowledge on my part, and a fine point of it. But the technology left a lot of silence and I think I was cut off. Frustrating, but also it was quick to silence me.
But I felt more comfortable talking later, the more I talked.
I count the days and hours I spend as a REAL WRITER. I feel like I LOVE the writing, but that it is separate. The hours I spend when I talk about it in public, and act as if it is a trick I can carry off.
